What Are Possible Impossiblities?

“The Poet ought rather to chuse Impossibilities, provided they have Resemblance to the Truth, than the Possible, which are Incredible with all their Possibility.”

Publishers Weekly Column

My monthly “Life in Comics” column for Publishers Weekly went up last week — it’s here. September’s column is about independent comics publishers having to compete with big publisher-backed graphic novel imprints. Last month’s column was about how the infrastructure of the comics industry was built to support a model that is increasingly irrelevant and unworkable.

Lately, I’ve been writing a lot about the challenges of being an independent comics publisher because, well, it’s a challenging time. Those in publishing know this, and those in comics publishing know it particularly.
